Statement from the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on the Nomination of Archbishop Elect George Lucas On Wednesday June 3, Pope Benedict XVI named our Bishop George Lucas to be the next Archbishop of Omaha. We are proud that the Holy Father recognizes Bishop Lucas' talents, kindness and faith, and knows the need of a larger diocese for such leadership. Yet, at the same time, we also recognize that this is a great loss for us as a diocese and parish. As the Cathedral parish, we have the blessed opportunity to interact with the Bishop quite often, and have come to love him dearly in the ten years he has been with us. We are happy for the people of the archdiocese of Omaha, and pray that Bishop Lucas will serve them with the love he has served us. While we are saddened that we will have to lose Bishop Lucas, we trust that the same Holy Spirit, who guides the Church, and sent him to us, will also provide a shepherd to us. We will keep Bishop Lucas close to our hearts in prayer during these days of transition for him, and trust that God will keep us together as a parish and diocese for the months to come.
A Note from Our Pastor:
Welcome to the Webpage for the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception! Whether you are a “Cathedral Regular” or an interested visitor, I hope that you will find our webpage informative and interesting. This is an exciting time for our parish and diocese with the renewal of the Cathedral Church, and I hope that you will use this page to keep up with the restoration work as well as with parish happenings. We ask for both your patience and input as we begin to use the web as an important tool for the work of the Church. Please feel welcome to inquire about our Cathedral and our parish family! God’s Blessings to you.
Make a Gift for Dedication Day
Families and parishioners who would like to make a gift in memory of a loved one can choose to help with various items which will be used in the newly restored Cathedral. Several smaller projects, such as helping with the cleaning and reparing of chalices, the purchasing of new liturgical items andsacramental linens offer the chance to give to the Church in memory of someone who loved worshiping at the Cathedral. Please call the parish office for the various options for giving.
